Cardiopulmonary Department:

 

SCOPE:       

Respiratory care is a life-supporting, life-enhancing health care profession practiced under qualified medical direction.  Respiratory Care Services are provided to both inpatients and out patients with disorders of the Cardiopulmonary System, including:  Therapeutic delivery of care, diagnostic testing, monitoring of patient status and improvement and evaluation of care.

Our Cardiopulmonary Department is staffed twenty-four hours a day seven days a week.  All individuals who provide diagnostic or therapeutic respiratory care have appropriate qualifications, training and possess a current license issued by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.

SERVICES PROVIDED:

Cardiology -   Cardiac Stress Testing- Caradiolite, Lexiscan, and Persantine Echocardiograms and Bubble Studies  with the new VIVID 7 Ultrasound Machine. 

We provide free athletic screening for local athletes to detect heart abnormalities. Electrocardiograms, EEG’s (Neuro-diagnostic Testing)

Sleep Studies with mask fitting, patient education and follow-up evaluation with board certified Sleep physician - * redecorated patient rooms

Pulmonary Function Testing, Ventilator and Airway management, Arterial Blood Gas Analysis with Co-oximetry using the new IL GEM 4000 Analyzer, Aerosol and Oxygen Therapy and Patient Education.

WHAT IS SLEEP APNEA?

Sleep Apnea is a condition in which a person repeatedly stops breathing during sleep.  The most common symptom of sleep apnea is snoring with pauses in the breathing pattern.  This condition disturbs restful sleep, and as a result could effect daytime function.  Sleep apnea may lead to a number of medical problems if left untreated, such as an increased risk of:
